Hyderabad: In a significant statement, Hydra Commissioner Ranganath clarified his stance on demolitions in the Hyderabad metropolitan area, countering reports that the authority had retreated on the issue due to public opposition. Speaking to the media, he firmly stated that Hydra had not made any "U-turn" regarding the demolition of unauthorized constructions.

Ranganath emphasized that the organization operates strictly according to government policies. He reiterated that houses with permissions obtained before July 2024 would not be demolished, providing clarity on the matter once again.

The commissioner pointed out that if the government were to decide on demolishing all unauthorized structures, millions of houses would need to be brought down. Highlighting the need for learning from past experiences, Ranganath said that Hydra has modified some of its procedures based on those lessons since its establishment.
