Bengal Women’s Cricket Team Sets World Record in Domestic Cricket
A new milestone has been achieved in women’s domestic cricket, with the Bengal women’s cricket team breaking records in the one-day format. On Monday, at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, the Bengal team successfully chased a staggering target of 390 runs against Haryana in the ongoing "Senior Women’s Trophy 2024."
Tanu Shree, who was named "Player of the Match," played a pivotal role in this historic victory by scoring an explosive 113 runs off just 83 balls, including 20 boundaries. Bengal reached the target with five balls to spare, securing their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.
This chase has set a new benchmark in domestic women’s cricket. Previously, the record for the highest successful chase in India was held by the Railways team, which chased a target of 356/4 against Chandigarh in 2021. On a global level, the Bengal team has surpassed the record set by Northern Districts Women, who chased down 309 runs against Canterbury in New Zealand's domestic cricket in 2019.
In international women’s cricket, the highest successful chase remains the 305-run target achieved by the Sri Lanka women’s team against South Africa Women. However, Bengal's performance now stands as a monumental achievement in women’s cricket history.
