18 Kilometers on Foot: Students Walk to Collector's Office to File Complaint

In a remarkable incident from Jogulamba Gadwal district, Telangana, nearly 200 students from the Beechupalli Government Boys Gurukula School walked 18 kilometers to file a complaint with the district collector. The students alleged harassment by their school principal and demanded immediate action.

On Tuesday, the students scaled the boundary walls of their school and college premises to embark on a long march from Beechupalli to the collector's office in Gadwal. Their rally attracted attention, prompting police to provide security along the way.

Speaking to the media after submitting their complaint, the students accused the principal of daily physical punishment under the guise of discipline. They further claimed that study materials had not been provided, the school lacked proper restroom facilities, and meals were not being served as per the prescribed menu. Additionally, they alleged that vacant seats in the sixth grade were being sold.

The principal responded to the allegations, stating that some students had developed bad habits and left the school without permission, forcing him to issue warnings. He admitted to issuing a transfer certificate to one student but denied harassing any of them.
