Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes Rishabh Pant’s Dismissal During Live Commentary –Viral Video
Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, known for his high expectations from the Indian cricket team, often points out players' mistakes and provides constructive feedback. While his commentary motivates both players and fans, he doesn’t shy away from expressing dissatisfaction when players make errors. A similar instance occurred during the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia.
On the third day of the match, Gavaskar strongly criticized Rishabh Pant's dismissal. The star batter fell early in the morning session while attempting an ill-advised scoop shot off Australian pacer Scott Boland. In the 56th over of India’s innings, Pant tried to play a scoop shot towards fine leg. The ball, however, went straight to Nathan Lyon, positioned at third man, who completed the catch without error.
Pant’s dismissal came at a critical juncture, further weakening an already struggling Indian side. Gavaskar, clearly displeased with Pant’s shot selection, lashed out during live commentary, repeatedly calling the decision "stupid." He stated, "That was a terrible choice of shot. The Indian team is not in a position to play such shots."
Gavaskar emphasized that Pant’s wicket was a significant blow to India and a boost for the Australian team. He remarked, "Playing such a shot with two fielders positioned in that area is simply poor judgment. You threw your wicket away. Team India is not in a situation to play such reckless shots. You need to understand the match scenario. This is not the time for so-called natural game. I’m sorry, but this isn’t acceptable."
The video of Gavaskar’s sharp criticism has since gone viral on social media, sparking discussions among fans about Pant's approach to the game.
