Retired Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana addressed the Andhra Pradesh government with significant recommendations during the sixth World Telugu Writers’ Conference, held on Saturday at KBN College, Vijayawada. Speaking as the chief guest, Justice Ramana emphasized the urgent need to establish the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University in the state to preserve and promote the Telugu language and culture.

He urged the repeal of Government Order No. 85 introduced by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, which mandates English medium education from Grade 1 in government schools. Justice Ramana suggested reinstating the previous education policy to protect the mother tongue and proposed adopting measures similar to those implemented in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to safeguard native languages.

Highlighting the importance of preserving the Telugu language, he stated, “While it is acceptable to adopt the positive aspects of foreign languages and cultures, blind imitation can lead to losses.” Justice Ramana stressed that the responsibility of language preservation ultimately rests with the people, urging them to rally for the cause of Telugu without being antagonistic toward the government.

Justice Ramana criticized the perception that English is the sole pathway to attracting investors or securing employment opportunities, calling it a misconception.
