BJP leader and Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh has expressed concerns over the manner in which people celebrate New Year’s Eve, stating that such events pose risks to lives. In a video message, he questioned, “Is it right to travel to Goa, clubs, and pubs in the name of celebrating the New Year? Is this our culture?”

Raja Singh alleged that January 1 was imposed as New Year’s Day by British rulers and criticized the events leading up to midnight on December 31, which he claimed endanger lives. He emphasized that Ugadi, not January 1, is the true New Year for Hindus and called on people to educate future generations about this cultural significance.

He further stated that celebrating New Year’s Day on January 1 promotes foreign culture among future generations. “By indulging in such celebrations, we are putting lives at risk and distancing ourselves from our traditions,” he said. Singh urged Hindus to recognize Ugadi as their New Year and to pass this understanding to the next generation.

Raja Singh concluded by reiterating that January 1, according to the English calendar, is not India’s true New Year and that Hindus should uphold their cultural values by celebrating Ugadi instead.
