Only Indian Actor in ‘The Independent’s’ Top 60: Late Irrfan Khan
British online media outlet The Independent has released a list of the 60 greatest actors of the 21st century, featuring only one Indian actor—late Irrfan Khan. Notable Indian actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kamal Haasan did not make the list, making Irrfan Khan’s inclusion all the more significant.
Irrfan Khan, who passed away on April 29, 2020, due to a neuroendocrine tumor, was ranked 41st on the list. This rare and challenging illness led to his extended treatment in the UK, where he was under medical care for several months. Despite expectations of recovery, Irrfan returned to India and continued treatment under the supervision of doctors in Mumbai.
During the filming of his last movie, Angrezi Medium, Irrfan struggled with health issues, forcing him to take breaks from shooting. Nonetheless, he completed the film before his health deteriorated further. Irrfan Khan passed away while undergoing treatment on April 29, 2020, leaving a profound legacy in global cinema.
