Devajit Saikia is set to be unanimously elected as the new secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The nominations process for the posts of BCCI secretary and treasurer concluded on Saturday ahead of the BCCI Annual General Meeting scheduled for January 12 in Mumbai. Saikia, who currently serves as the interim secretary, filed his nomination for the secretary position, while Prabhatej from Chhattisgarh filed for the treasurer post.

With no other candidates filing nominations by the deadline on Saturday evening, both Devajit Saikia and Prabhatej are expected to be declared elected unopposed to their respective positions. Their official appointment will be announced during the AGM on January 12 by former Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Joti, who is overseeing the election process.

The need for fresh elections arose following major changes in BCCI leadership. Jay Shah, who had been serving as the secretary, was recently elected as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Meanwhile, Ashish Shelar, who had been handling treasurer responsibilities, assumed ministerial duties in Maharashtra.
