The criticism following Team India's defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been widespread, particularly targeting senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their poor performance in the series. Amidst this, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh came forward in support of the duo, asserting that people have forgotten their past contributions to Indian cricket.

Attending the launch of the Tennis Ball Cricket Premier League (TBCPL) in Dubai, Yuvraj Singh remarked, “India’s achievements over the last five years have been remarkable. We won back-to-back series in Australia, something no other team has accomplished. Now, after just one loss, we are criticizing our legendary players. It’s easy to target players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli when they don’t perform, but people forget what they have done for the team in the past.”

Highlighting the sacrifices made by these cricketers, he added, “These players spend more time with the team than with their families. They are willing to do anything for the country. Team India will bounce back strongly from this loss. With Gautam Gambhir as coach, Ajit Agarkar as selector, and key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, there is no doubt that the team’s comeback will be solid.”

Addressing Rohit Sharma’s recent decision to step down as captain for the final Test due to his form, Yuvraj said, “It was a great decision. Rohit prioritized the team over himself, and it’s not fair to criticize such a move. He is a brilliant captain. Under his leadership, we reached the ODI World Cup final and won the T20 World Cup. Losing one series doesn’t diminish those achievements.”

Reflecting on India’s loss to New Zealand at home, Yuvraj admitted it was disappointing but emphasized the importance of standing by players during tough times. “It’s easy to criticize players when they don’t perform, but supporting them is much harder. I will always stand by my friends and teammates—they are like family to me,” he concluded.
