Oscar Race: ‘Kanguva’ and ‘The Goat Life’ Among Six Indian Films in Contention
With just two months remaining for the 97th Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed a list of 323 films eligible for this year’s Oscars. Out of these, 207 films are vying for the prestigious Best Picture award. Among the contenders, six Indian films have entered the race, drawing attention from cinema enthusiasts worldwide.
The Indian films competing for the Best Picture category are Kanguva (Tamil), The Goat Life (Hindi), Santosh (Hindi), Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (Hindi), All We Imagine as Light (Malayalam), and Girls Will Be Girls (Hindi-English). Notably, the inclusion of Kanguva, which faced a commercial failure at the box office, has sparked criticism, with some questioning its qualification for such a prestigious competition.
Voting for Oscar nominations is set to begin tomorrow, January 8, and will conclude on January 12. The Academy will announce the final nominations on January 17. Indian fans are eagerly awaiting to see if any of these five films secure a nomination. The Oscars 2025 ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood.
