Hyderabad: Tensions prevailed at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad during a protest staged by women Congress leaders and workers against skyrocketing prices. A scuffle broke out between the police and the women Congress leaders during the protest. On the occasion, Mahila Congress president Sunita Rao fainted. Immediately, she was rushed to a hospital by the police.

Women Congress leaders staged a sit-in on Friday in protest of the rising prices of essential commodities across the country. Congress gave a clarion call to the party leaders and workers across the country to agitate against the Central government for hiking the petrol and diesel prices on a daily basis.

As a part of the protest, women leaders in Hyderabad, too, took to the streets, pushing the barricades set up by the police at Gandhi Bhavan. As a result, they were stopped by the police and Sunita Rao fainted in the melee that took place between the two groups. Women leaders were outraged at the police as their leader fell unconscious.
