Ravichandran Ashwin Makes Key Remarks on Retirement Decision
Indian cricket legend Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently announced his unexpected retirement from international cricket, has now opened up about the decision. Following the conclusion of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba, Ashwin surprised the cricketing world by declaring his retirement during a post-match press conference.
In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, the celebrated spinner revealed his perspective on retirement and personal milestones. “I have never been someone who believes in celebrations or craves attention. I always prioritize the game over myself,” said Ashwin.
Elaborating on his decision, he remarked, “When making decisions, there’s always a lingering question—‘Am I making the right choice?’ But for me, it’s different. I’ve never been one to cling to things. I prefer letting go of certain aspects without hesitation.”
Ashwin also emphasized his mindset regarding insecurity and self-contentment. “I’ve never felt insecure because I don’t believe in clinging to what I have today or what might be mine tomorrow. This thought process has guided me throughout my journey. For me, cricket has always been the top priority, and no one can separate me from it,” he added.
Dismissing the notion of spontaneity in his decision, Ashwin clarified, “The retirement decision wasn’t abrupt. It came after considerable thought and introspection.”
