Gavaskar’s Warning About Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Comes True
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the young Rajasthan Royals cricketer who recently captured the attention of the cricketing world with a stunning century against Gujarat Titans, delivered a disappointing performance in the match against Mumbai Indians. He faced only two deliveries without scoring a run before returning to the pavilion. In this context, remarks made earlier by Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar have now become a topic of widespread discussion.

During the Thursday match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, Sunil Gavaskar, speaking from the commentary box, made significant observations about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s performance. “Before the auction, Vaibhav scored a century against Australia in a Youth Test. Scoring a century against an international team at the age of 13 is no small feat. He is talented, but he is not yet fully seasoned. He must work further to improve his game. Under the guidance of mentors like Rahul Dravid, he will develop further,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavaskar also cautioned against premature praise for Sooryavanshi. “A first-ball six in the debut match and a century in the third could mislead experienced bowlers. They might anticipate him going for a six off the first ball and try to trouble him with short-pitched deliveries. This poses a risk of him getting out early. If that happens, it might cause him stress and lead to overthinking,” Gavaskar stated.

Just as Gavaskar warned, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi failed in the match against Mumbai Indians. Opening the innings, he attempted a shot off the second ball of the first over bowled by Deepak Chahar. Misjudging the delivery, he offered a simple catch to the fielder at mid-on and was dismissed for a duck. His departure without scoring dealt an early blow to the Rajasthan Royals. As predicted, Gavaskar’s comments began circulating widely on social media, with many highlighting the accuracy of his analysis.

While Sooryavanshi walked back dejected, Mumbai Indians veteran Rohit Sharma approached him with encouragement. Patting the young player on the shoulder, he said, “It’s okay, these things happen. You will learn.” Footage of this moment went viral on social media. During commentary, Ravi Shastri also acknowledged Rohit Sharma’s sportsmanship. Fans and netizens have since been applauding Rohit Sharma, noting that senior players supporting younger teammates during failure is a commendable tradition in cricket.
