Gilchrist Compares Bumrah to Australian Legend

Australia’s former wicketkeeper and legendary batter Adam Gilchrist has heaped praise on Team India’s star pacer and Mumbai Indians bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Impressed by Bumrah’s performance in the 2024 IPL season, Adam Gilchrist drew a striking comparison, stating that Bumrah’s dominance with the ball reminded him of the supremacy Sir Donald Bradman once exhibited with the bat.
Having returned from injury, Jasprit Bumrah is currently in exceptional form in the ongoing IPL season. He has played a crucial role in Mumbai Indians’ victories, consistently unsettling opposition batters with his tight and disciplined bowling. So far this season, Bumrah has maintained an economy rate of just 6.96 and is averaging 10 dot balls per match, increasing pressure on the opposing teams.
Speaking on Bumrah’s impact, Adam Gilchrist said, “Bumrah is possibly an all-time great fast bowler. Considering his statistics and his skills in various conditions, one is reminded of how far ahead Sir Donald Bradman was from his contemporaries. Bumrah belongs to that elite category.” Gilchrist also recalled Bumrah’s standout performance in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he took 32 wickets at an average of 13, which he said had deeply unsettled the Australians. “There is no doubt that, regardless of the format, he is a world-class bowler,” Gilchrist stated.
Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik also hailed Jasprit Bumrah as a “national treasure.” Karthik analysed that “the Indian team looks different when Bumrah is bowling. He quickly adapts to any pitch and possesses the intelligence and skill to bowl the ideal length suited to the surface, which defines his greatness.”
