Missile and Drone Attacks on Jammu by Pakistan Spark Tensions Along the Border
In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Pakistan launched missile and drone attacks on multiple areas in Jammu and Kashmir just hours after its attempt to orchestrate terrorist strikes in fifteen Indian cities was reportedly foiled. The sudden wave of aggression has led to a highly tense atmosphere along the India–Pakistan border.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Friday night, residents of Jammu reported hearing loud explosions, followed by the blaring of emergency sirens and a complete blackout across the city. Eyewitnesses captured videos showing streaks of light in the sky, which are believed to be the interception efforts of India's air defense systems against incoming missiles and drones allegedly launched by Pakistan.

In addition to Jammu, regions up to 300 kilometers away—Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir and Pathankot and Gurdaspur in Punjab—experienced power cuts as authorities enforced widespread blackouts. A total power shutdown was also implemented in Baramulla.

Heavy shelling by the Pakistan Army was ongoing across multiple sectors along the international border, including Samba, Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Reasi. Credible sources indicated that several attacks targeted the Jammu airport as well. There were also unconfirmed reports of extensive drone activity across the border.

“Complete blackout in Jammu. Loud explosions, suspected bombings, shelling, or missile attacks are being reported. Do not panic... Mata Vaishno Devi is with us, and so are our brave Indian Armed Forces,” said Shesh Paul Vaid, former Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir.

Authorities have urged residents in border areas to remain vigilant in light of the evolving security situation.
