Pan-India Films Are a Big Scam: Anurag Kashyap Makes Shocking Remarks
Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has once again made headlines with his provocative remarks. Having recently stated that he distanced himself from Bollywood due to dissatisfaction with the industry's work culture, Anurag Kashyap has now strongly criticized the growing trend of "pan-India" films, calling it nothing short of a "massive scam."

Speaking at The Huddle event organized by The Hindu, Anurag Kashyap openly addressed the realities behind these high-budget productions. “In my view, pan-India is a big scam,” said Anurag Kashyap. “It takes three to four years to make one film. Many people depend on that film for their livelihood, and their entire lifestyle is tied to it. But not all the money invested actually goes into making the film. Even if it does, most of it is spent on extravagant, unrealistic sets, which makes no sense. Only about 1 percent of such films actually succeed,” he stated.

Anurag Kashyap also expressed concern over the trend of imitating successful films. “After the success of Uri: The Surgical Strike, everyone rushed to make patriotic films. After Baahubali, people tried to make similar grand-scale films with Prabhas or others. When KGF became a hit, everyone tried to copy it. This is where storytelling begins to deteriorate,” he said.

Pan-India films, which are released simultaneously in multiple languages such as Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam and aim for a nationwide market, gained significant traction after the extraordinary success of Baahubali in 2015. Subsequently, films like Pushpa: The Rise starring Allu Arjun also achieved major box office success.

Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap’s directorial project Kennedy is yet to finalize a theatrical release date in India. As an actor, he was recently seen in Rifle Club and Viduthalai Part 2.
