Sachin Shares Emotional Memory as Virat Kohli Retires from Test Cricket

Virat Kohli, star batter and former captain of the Indian cricket team, has announced his retirement from Test cricket. On Monday, he declared that he was bringing an end to his illustrious 14-year-long career in the longest format of the game. Kohli, who made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011, rose to become a pivotal player in the Indian lineup following Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement in 2013.
In response to Kohli’s retirement announcement, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar offered an emotional tribute and shared a deeply personal incident that had remained unknown to the public until now.
Recalling an event from his final Test match, Sachin Tendulkar said, “As you are retiring from Tests now, I remember your gesture from 12 years ago during my last Test. You offered me a sacred thread that belonged to your late father. It was an extremely personal gift, and I could not accept it. But your heartfelt gesture touched me deeply and will always remain in my memory. While I may not have a similar thread to give you in return, know that my deep admiration and best wishes are always with you.”
Reflecting on Kohli’s legacy, Sachin Tendulkar stated, “Virat, your true legacy lies in inspiring countless young cricketers and guiding them towards the game. Your Test career has been phenomenal! You contributed much more than just runs to Indian cricket. You brought a new generation of emotionally connected fans and players into the sport. Congratulations on your exceptional Test career.”
