Rohit Sharma Meets Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis; Speculations Arise Over Political Entry
Recently retired from Test cricket, Indian star batter Rohit Sharma met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis yesterday, drawing significant attention. Rohit paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister at his official residence, ‘Varsha’, in Mumbai. Following the meeting, Devendra Fadnavis shared his thoughts on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“It was a pleasure to meet and speak with Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma at my official residence, Varsha. I conveyed my best wishes for his next chapter after retirement from Test cricket,” wrote Devendra Fadnavis, sharing photographs taken with Rohit during the meeting.

This meeting, and the subsequent release of photos, has sparked widespread speculation that Rohit Sharma may be considering a foray into politics. Social media platforms have been abuzz with discussions around this possibility. However, there has been no official confirmation of such plans.

Rohit Sharma recently announced his retirement from the longest format of the game, concluding an 11-year Test career. He made a remarkable debut in November 2013 against the West Indies and represented India in 67 Tests. During this time, he scored 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. His highest score of 212 came during a home series against South Africa in 2019. With this, Rohit became the 16th highest run-scorer for India in Test history.

Rohit’s first Test match took place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2013, where he scored an impressive 177 runs. Early in his Test career, he faced challenges in cementing his position as a top-order batter. Between 2013 and 2018, he played only 27 Tests, scoring 1,585 runs in 47 innings at an average of 39.63, which included three centuries and ten half-centuries.

A turning point came in 2019 when Rohit took on the role of opening batter. He showcased his abilities with consecutive centuries against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. In the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, he played 40 Tests, scoring 2,716 runs at an average of 41.15. This included nine centuries and eight half-centuries. Rohit set a record for scoring the most runs and most centuries for India in WTC history and ranked 10th globally in terms of total runs scored during the championship. He also captained the Indian team in the 2023 WTC final against Australia in the UK, where India faced defeat.
