Rohit Sharma Gets Emotional as Wankhede Stand Named After Him

Team India’s star player Rohit Sharma received a rare honour from the Mumbai Cricket Association on Friday, with a stand at the Wankhede Cricket Stadium being named after him. Rohit Sharma attended the unveiling ceremony along with his parents and wife Ritika. On this occasion, Rohit Sharma became emotional as he recalled his cherished memories associated with the stadium.
He described Wankhede as a great stadium and shared that it holds many special memories for him. He expressed a desire to play for Team India again in the One Day International format at Wankhede in the future. Rohit Sharma said he never imagined that a stand in the stadium would be named after him.
He remarked that every player aspires to deliver outstanding performances and serve the country, achieving many milestones in the process. However, he said that this particular honour was especially meaningful.
He further stated that having his name placed alongside those of legendary cricketers and political leaders was indescribable. Rohit Sharma became emotional as he thanked the Mumbai Cricket Association for this recognition.
The Wankhede Stadium already features stands named after Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Vinoo Mankad, and Dilip Vengsarkar. Newly inaugurated stands now also bear the names of Rohit Sharma, Sharad Pawar, and Ajit Wadekar.
