Director Abishek Jawinth Overwhelmed by Rajamouli’s Praise for ‘Tourist Family’

Prominent filmmaker SS Rajamouli showered praise on a small Tamil film titled Tourist Family, directed by Abishek Jawinth. After watching the movie, SS Rajamouli described it as one of the finest cinematic experiences he has had in recent times. The unexpected appreciation deeply moved the young director, who admitted that he was still unable to recover from the surprise.

On Monday, SS Rajamouli shared his thoughts about Tourist Family on his X (formerly Twitter) account. “Watched the wonderful film Tourist Family. It's heartwarming and packed with hilarious comedy that had me laughing throughout. From start to finish, it kept me thoroughly engaged. Kudos to Abishek Jawinth for the excellent writing and direction. Thank you for giving me one of the best cinematic experiences in recent years. Do not miss this one,” SS Rajamouli wrote in his post.

Receiving such praise from a leading filmmaker like SS Rajamouli left director Abishek Jawinth overwhelmed. Responding to Rajamouli’s tweet, he stated, “Thank you so much, Rajamouli sir! Your tweet gave us the surprise of a lifetime—it truly made our day extra special. Words can’t express our gratitude.” He further added, “I still can’t believe this… I used to eagerly watch his films, but I never imagined that the creator of such magical worlds would one day mention my name. Rajamouli sir, you made this young man’s dream larger than life.”

Tourist Family, which was released on May 1, was produced on a modest budget. Despite releasing alongside big films such as Suriya’s Retro and Nani’s Hit: The Third Case, this family entertainer achieved remarkable success at the box office. It has already grossed over ₹50 crore. Before SS Rajamouli, other prominent figures like superstar Rajinikanth and actor Dhanush had also praised the film and its director.

The film stars Sasikumar and Simran in lead roles, with supporting performances by Yogi Babu, Mithun Jayashankar, Kamalesh, and M.S. Bhaskar. Tourist Family was produced under the banners of Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment by Nasreth Baslian, Mahesh Raj Baslian, and Yuvaraj Ganeshan. Music was composed by Shaan Rahman, while Aravind Vishwanathan served as the cinematographer.
