Yoga Enhances Discipline and Focus, Says Chandrababu at ‘Yogandhra’

Practising yoga improves physical and mental health, reduces stress, and strengthens immunity, said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. He made these remarks while addressing Yogandhra event on the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations held in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister for AYUSH, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, as well as various Union and state ministers.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for popularising yoga not only in India but across the world. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought yoga into global prominence by launching International Yoga Day through the United Nations and transforming yoga into a global health movement,” said Nara Chandrababu Naidu. He stated that today, more than 1 billion people are participating in International Yoga Day across over 1.2 million locations in more than 175 countries. He emphasised that yoga is being embraced universally, regardless of nationality, region, religion, or language.
Nara Chandrababu Naidu explained that yoga unites the body, mind, and soul, contributing to physical health, mental well-being, stress management, immunity, self-confidence, self-discovery, mental calmness, inner peace, and overall well-being. He opined that as a result, violence diminishes and peace prevails. He also noted that advancements in technology, including artificial intelligence, have made yoga more accessible.
The Chief Minister stated that, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state conducted a month-long yoga awareness campaign, during which training was provided to 144,000 yoga instructors, and over 217 million participants were registered across 140,000 locations. In Visakhapatnam alone, more than 300,000 people participated in the event along a 28-kilometre stretch from the city to Bhogapuram. He said a total of 17 million certificates were issued as part of this initiative. Nara Chandrababu Naidu also congratulated the 22,122 tribal students who performed Surya Namaskars simultaneously, earning a Guinness World Record, which he described as a matter of pride.
He announced that global competitions on various aspects of yoga have begun and expressed satisfaction that the Yoga Super League will commence in September. He appealed to the Prime Minister to work towards including yoga in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and eventually the Olympic Games. “Creating history or breaking records is possible only because of Narendra Modiji, which is why I am making this request to him,” said Nara Chandrababu Naidu. He added that yoga has become a public movement due to the Prime Minister's promotion over the past decade.
Nara Chandrababu Naidu urged everyone to dedicate one hour daily to yoga for their own benefit. Addressing the youth, he said, “Yoga should not be seen merely as a form of exercise but as a powerful tool for enhancing focus, discipline, and creativity in today’s fast-evolving digital world. With consistent practice, you can witness miracles in your life.” He said that this would ultimately lead to a happier society and added that “a healthy, prosperous, and happy Andhra Pradesh” is one of the primary objectives of the ‘Andhra Pradesh Vision 2047’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’ initiatives.
The Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for revitalising yoga, naturopathy, green energy, Swachh Bharat, and natural farming. He said the Prime Minister’s vision is aimed not only at a healthy global society but also a healthy planet. He called for collective efforts to strengthen the spirit of “One Earth, One Health” and urged everyone to work together for global peace and happiness.
