Vijayawada: Minister Roja opens summer camp sans SAAP chief Byreddy
Vijayawada: Tourism and Culture Minister R.K. Roja on Wednesday inaugurated summer training camp at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here by playing cricket and basketball.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that she felt happy for opening sports coaching camp for children. “The state government is organising 1,670 summer training camps in 26 districts,” she mentioned and assured to set up academies for 12 sports very soon.
Roja further stated that more than 2,000 government jobs were filled in 2 per cent sports quota after YSRCP government came to power. “Till date, Rs 4.7 crore financial rewards were given to outstanding sports players under the YSR Sports Incentive Scheme,” she added.
The minister mentioned that the Jagan government is giving priority for sports. “Children were restricted to their houses in the last two years because of coronavirus pandemic,” she said. However, absence of Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Chairman Byreddy Siddharth Reddy has raised eyebrows.
