Chennai court directs cops to file FIR against Surya, Jyothika, Jai Bhim director

Chennai: A local court in Chennai on Thursday directed the police to register a FIR against actor Surya, his wife Jyothika and director Gnanavel for wrongly representing the Vanniyar community in the Jai Bhim movie. Verdict was delivered after hearing arguments over the petition filed by the Rudra Vanniyar Sena in November 2021.
 
The petitioners alleged that people belonging to Vanniyar Community were shown in a poor light in the film. They brought to the notice of the court that several scenes and names of villains in Jai Bhim are directly referred to their community. Lawyer representing Rudra Vanniyar Sena in the court argued that movie was made to instigate communal violence between two communities. 
 
Soon after the movie was released, PMK leader and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said that the movie had hurt the sentiments of Vanniyar community. However, either Surya or director did not respond the court verdict.
