Minister Puvvada condemns CM Ramesh’s remarks on Kaleshwaram
Hyderabad, July 26: Telangana Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar condemned the remarks made by former Rajya Sabha member and Andhra Pradesh BJP leader CM Ramesh. On Monday, Ramesh said that Kaleshwaram Project was responsible for Bhadrachalam flooding. “Water stored in Kaleshwaram was released at a time leading to submergence of Bhadrachalam and its surroundings,” he alleged.
Ajay mentioned that Kaleshwaram has capacity to store only 14 tmcft of water. It is around 1.5 lakh cusecs. More than 20 lakh cusecs of water was discharged at Bhadrachalam during Godavari floods, he stated. Will temple town submerge with 1.5 lakh cusecs of water, he asked?
The minister made it clear that the Telangana government is not against construction of the Polavaram project. “Only we are concerned regarding flooding of Bhadrachalam because of backwater from Polavaram,” he said. To a question, Ajay stated that the TRS government had wrote letters to the Centre to hand over 5 villages to Telangana for developing embankment around Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple.
