The issue of pensions and the role of volunteers has become a major concern in Andhra Pradesh (AP). Former minister and YSR Congress Party MLA, Perni Nani, held a press conference to address this issue, questioning who is responsible for halting the pension payments to beneficiaries.
Nani highlighted that AP has 66 lakh pensioners, and a program was in place to distribute pensions through 2.50 lakh volunteers over three days. However, he accused Chandrababu Naidu of halting this program. Nani alleged that Naidu and his followers, from Delhi to the local levels, have made efforts to stop the pension distribution.
Criticizing Naidu, Nani asked if, during his 14-year tenure, there was ever an intention to go door-to-door to provide pensions to the elderly and disabled. He accused Naidu of having a feudal mentality, lacking compassion for the poor, and only seeing them as a vote bank rather than as people.
Following orders from the Election Commission to sideline volunteers, the TDP members celebrated, according to Nani. He mocked their current predicaments, comparing them to a monkey stuck in a door, and stated that even if Goddess Jejamma herself descended, they wouldn't be able to halt the pension program in AP.
