Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has faced another setback in his career. Once hailed as the next Sachin Tendulkar for Indian cricket, Shaw now struggles to secure a spot even in his state team. After being away from the national team for a considerable time, the batter received another blow when no franchise showed interest in him at the IPL 2025 mega auction, despite a base price of ₹75 lakh. He was previously dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad and now finds himself excluded from the Mumbai team for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Shaw’s recent performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy was underwhelming, scoring just 197 runs in nine matches. In the final against Madhya Pradesh, he managed only 10 runs. Citing his inconsistent form, the Mumbai selectors left him out of the squad announced for the first three matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy starting December 21.

Reacting to his omission, Shaw expressed deep disappointment on social media. He shared his List-A cricket statistics on Instagram, highlighting his impressive record:

"What more should I do, God? How many more runs should I score? In 65 List-A innings, I have scored 3,399 runs at a strike rate of 126 with an average of 55.7. Are these numbers not enough for selection? Still, I trust in You. I hope people still believe in me because I will surely come back. Om Sai Ram," wrote Shaw in his Instagram story.

Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer also shared his views on Shaw's talent after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, where Mumbai defeated Madhya Pradesh by five wickets.

"Personally, I think he is a God-gifted player. His natural talent is unmatched. However, he needs to improve his approach to the game. If he does that, the sky's the limit for him. He has played a lot of cricket and received plenty of advice. In the end, it’s up to him to acknowledge what works for him. His primary focus should be on his game; everything else will fall into place," said Iyer.
