The Indian cricket team faced early challenges in the Melbourne Test, struggling on the fifth day as they began their second innings in pursuit of a daunting 340-run target set by Australia. By lunch, India had lost three crucial wickets, scoring just 33 runs.

Rohit Sharma (9), KL Rahul (0), and Virat Kohli (5) were dismissed in quick succession, leaving the team in a precarious position. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul fell in back-to-back overs when the score was at 25, and eight runs later, Virat Kohli was sent back to the pavilion.

Earlier in the day, Australia was bowled out for 234 runs in their second innings. With a first-innings lead added, they set a significant 340-run target for India. Among the Indian wickets, Pat Cummins claimed two, while Mitchell Starc picked up one.
