The dismal performance of Indian cricket stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the ongoing Australia tour has sparked speculation about their future in international cricket. In the fourth Test match at Melbourne, Sharma and Kohli struggled with the bat, continuing their lackluster streak. Rohit Sharma scored just 3 runs in the first innings and 9 runs in the second, while Virat Kohli managed 36 runs in the first innings and only 5 in the second.

Kohli, who had scored a century in the Perth Test, has since failed to deliver, recording scores of 7, 11, 3, 36, and 5 in subsequent innings. Similarly, Sharma has accumulated just 31 runs across three Tests, with disappointing scores of 3, 6, 10, 3, and 9.

The struggles are not limited to this series. During the home series against New Zealand in October-November, India suffered a 0-3 whitewash, with Sharma scoring only 91 runs and Kohli managing 93.

Amid these performances, former Indian captain and head coach Ravi Shastri has offered his perspective on the retirement buzz surrounding the two players. Shastri stated that Kohli still has three to four years of Test cricket left in him. However, he suggested that Rohit Sharma might need to consider his future after the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Shastri's comments came in the wake of the duo’s critical failures in pivotal moments of the ongoing series, raising questions about their ability to maintain their place in the team.
