Vallabhaneni Vamsi Raises Health Concerns Over Solitary Confinement

Former MLA and YSRCP leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi informed the court that he suffers from asthma and could face health complications if left alone in his jail cell. He requested the court to allow another person to be placed with him in the cell. As his three-day custody ended, the police presented him before the Vijayawada court, where he made these statements.
Vamsi brought to the court’s attention that despite his health issues, he was kept in solitary confinement. However, he clarified that he had no security concerns. In response, the judge questioned whether an attendant had already been assigned near his cell. The judge further stated that, as the in-charge judge, he could not issue an order to place another person in Vamsi’s cell.
However, the judge reportedly remarked that authorities would be held responsible if anything happened to Vamsi while in custody. He advised Vamsi’s lawyer to file a memo in the regular court the next day to request a cell transfer. The judge also directed jail officials to keep a warden available near Vamsi’s cell.
The government advocate informed the court that there was no objection to assigning a warden to monitor Vamsi’s health. Following the hearing, Vamsi was transferred to Vijayawada District Jail.
