SC Defers YS Avinash Reddy Bail Cancellation Hearing to July End

The Supreme Court today conducted a hearing on the petition filed seeking the cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to YSRCP Member of Parliament YS Avinash Reddy, who is an accused in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case. During the hearing, the legal representatives of YS Avinash Reddy requested the apex court for additional time to file a counter to the supplementary affidavit submitted by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Responding positively to this request, a bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna granted time for the submission of the counter and adjourned the next hearing to the last week of July. However, Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna noted that as his tenure would conclude by then, the case might be transferred to another bench for further proceedings.
During the hearing, the Andhra Pradesh government submitted a significant updated investigation report to the Supreme Court. In this report, the government stated that the cases previously filed against Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer Ram Singh, YS Sunitha Reddy—the daughter of YS Vivekananda Reddy—and her husband were acts of vendetta. The government alleged that Member of Parliament YS Avinash Reddy orchestrated these cases by manipulating two police officers.
The government's counsel, along with senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, who appeared on behalf of YS Sunitha Reddy, argued that the incident was evidence that YS Avinash Reddy, if allowed to remain out on bail, could tamper with evidence, influence witnesses, or intimidate them. Consequently, they urged the court to cancel YS Avinash Reddy's bail immediately.
The bench, after recording arguments from both sides, postponed the hearing.
