Maoists and Police Exchange Fire in Andhra’s Alluri Sitarama Raju District

A tense atmosphere has emerged in Andhra Pradesh following a confrontation between Maoists and security forces in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district. The incident occurred during a combing operation by security personnel in the agency region, based on specific intelligence regarding Maoist movements.
According to available details, the encounter took place in the forest area near Kakulamamidi and Kantaram villages within the Alluri district. While conducting a search operation, the police came face-to-face with Maoist insurgents. Upon spotting the police, the Maoists immediately opened fire. The alert security personnel retaliated, leading to an exchange of gunfire that lasted for some time. Subsequently, the Maoists reportedly fled into the dense forest. In response, police and special forces have intensified their search operations in the area to track down the absconding insurgents.
Meanwhile, similar unrest has been reported in the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh. On Monday evening, Maoists opened fire on security forces engaged in a combing operation in the forests between Nadipalli and Galgam villages in Bijapur district of the Dandakaranya region. The security personnel retaliated, resulting in another exchange of gunfire between both parties.
For the past week, a massive combing operation involving thousands of security personnel has been underway along the Telangana–Chhattisgarh border, with the goal of flushing out Maoist elements. As part of this ongoing operation, three female Maoists were killed in a gunfight that took place five days ago in the Karreguttalu area. Following these recent developments, security forces in the border agency regions have heightened their alertness and are continuing combing operations with increased intensity.
