Miss World Pageant in Hyderabad Sparks Sharp Criticism from CPI’s Narayana
Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Narayana has strongly criticized the Telangana government’s decision to host beauty pageants in Hyderabad, including the upcoming Miss World competition. Speaking at the inauguration of a commercial enterprise owned by his niece in Gudur, Tirupati district, Narayana issued scathing remarks against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over the initiative.

Narayana alleged that spending crores of rupees to conduct beauty contests was an insult to the sanctity of womanhood. “A beauty pageant is akin to auctioning women on public roads. This is not an appropriate approach. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who is organizing such events, lacks wisdom,” said Narayana. He described it as shameful that the government was reportedly spending ₹25 crore on the Miss World pageant.

He further stated that governments should focus on empowering women and creating employment opportunities for them, rather than demeaning them in the name of beauty contests. Narayana urged the public to oppose such events, asserting that they undermine the dignity of women.

Commending his niece, who left a software job to launch her own business and create employment for others, Narayana said that such entrepreneurial efforts should be encouraged. “Women should be supported in pursuing self-employment, not defiled through beauty contests,” he added. He also remarked that although his niece could easily win a beauty pageant, participating in one would be wrong.
