Cryotherapy ‘pain treatment’ & Advanced Physio services launched at SLG Hospitals
- Specialized treatment of Sports injuries and Post Operation pain management now available at SLG Hospitals
Cryotherapy is a pain treatment that uses a method of localized freezing temperatures to deaden an irritated nerve. Cryotherapy is also used as a method of treating localized areas of some cancers (called cryosurgery), such as prostate cancer and to treat abnormal skin cells by dermatologists. Cryotherapy is used to relieve muscle pain, sprains and swelling after soft tissue damage or surgery. It can be a range of treatments from the application of ice packs or immersion in ice baths (generally known as cold therapy), to the use of cold chambers.
Commenting on the launch of new therapy, Dr. V Jagan Mohana Reddy, Sr. Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, SLG Hospitals said, “Cryotherapy is the use of extremely low temperatures to treat symptoms such as tissue damage (it is excellent for athletes), decrease inflammation, increase cell rejuvenation, improve skin tone, and reduce signs of aging. The therapy is extremely useful to treat sports injuries, post-operation care for knee & hip replacement, and in post shoulder & knee surgery.”
There are numerous benefits of cryotherapy like reduction in migraine symptoms, numbs nerve irritation, helps treat mood disorders, reduces arthritic pain, treat low-risk tumors, and even helps prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s diseases, along with treating atopic dermatitis and other skin conditions.
