A case has been registered against Congress senior leader and Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi following Thursday morning’s developments in the Parliament premises. The action came after BJP leaders lodged a complaint with the police concerning an altercation that occurred during a protest organized by INDIA alliance leaders against remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about B.R. Ambedkar.

During the scuffle between MPs from the NDA and the INDIA alliance, BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustained injuries and were admitted to the ICU at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment. Alleging that Rahul Gandhi was responsible for their injuries, BJP MPs Hemant Joshi, Anurag Thakur, and Bansuri Swaraj filed a complaint at the Parliament Street police station. They demanded that Gandhi be charged under several sections, including attempted murder.

Based on the BJP leaders’ complaint, the police registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi and others under IPC Sections 115, 117, 131, and 351.

On the other side, Congress President and Rajya Sabha opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge reportedly fell and sustained injuries during the scuffle. Congress leaders filed a counter-complaint against BJP MPs at the police station, but no FIR has been registered against them so far.

Commenting on the matter, DCP (New Delhi) Dinesh Mahla stated that an investigation into the Congress complaint is underway. Meanwhile, both factions also submitted complaints to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
