Bumrah and Akash Deep’s Partnership Earns Praise in Brisbane Test

On the fourth day of the third Test between India and Australia at Brisbane, Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep stood out with their determined batting performance. Their crucial 39-run partnership for the 10th wicket helped India avoid the follow-on, earning widespread praise.

India needed 33 more runs to escape the follow-on when Bumrah and Akash Deep showed resilience at the crease, effectively countering the Australian bowling attack. Their grit and determination drew accolades from teammates and fans alike.

Opener KL Rahul, who played a key role earlier with an 84-run knock, lauded the duo’s fightback. “It’s good to see lower-order batters contributing runs. Bumrah and Akash Deep’s partnership for the last wicket was significant, helping us avoid the follow-on,” Rahul stated. He commended their fearless approach and the way they tackled Australia’s bowlers, calling the final half-hour of play “thrilling.”

Rahul also revealed the message sent from the Indian dressing room to Bumrah and Akash Deep when India approached the follow-on mark. According to Rahul, captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir advised the pair to focus on singles rather than risky boundary attempts.

“They told them, ‘It’s simple. Just try to score the remaining runs. You don’t have to go for boundaries. Fielders are placed deep expecting big shots, so rotating the strike with singles will do,’” Rahul explained.

India’s first innings concluded at 260, adding just eight runs on the fifth day after resuming from 252/9. Bumrah scored 10, while Akash Deep contributed a vital 31, stitching together a 47-run stand for the final wicket. Australia had earlier posted a commanding first-innings total of 445, securing a 185-run lead.
