On the eve of World Wetlands Day 2024 on 2nd February, 2024, Environment Protection Training & Research Institute (EPTRI) in collaboration with Telangana State Biodiversity Board (TSBDB) has organized World Wetlands Day 2024 celebrations on the theme Wetlands and human wellbeing to sensitize the communities, school & college students about importance of Wetlands & biodiversity. The event was organized at Neknampur lake on 2nd February, 2024.

The event has witnessed activities like Wetland Walk; Poster Competition on Wetlands & Human Well beings; Project Exhibition on Wetlands and Photo Exhibition On Wetlands & its Biodiversity and welcome dance on the theme “MERI LiFE” (Lifestyle for Environment)

The Chief Guest for the event was Smt. Konda Surekha, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest & Endowments, Govt. of Telangana. The chief guest has Inaugurated Manmade Biggest Floating Bird Island of India at Neknampur Lake and participated in Plantation drive.

The Chief Guest has addressed the gatherings and emphasized the need of wetlands as they are referred to as "earth's kidneys" because of their high and long-term capacity to filter pollutants from the water that flows through them. She urged the students to get enrolled in Wetland Mitra (Chittadinelalu mitra) and to take the responsibility of protecting the wetland from dumping of waste, plastics, drainage, etc. She also highlighted how Ramsar Convention on Wetlands was adopted on this day on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

The Guest of honour for the event was Smt. A. Vani Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary to Environment, Forests, Science and Technology, Govt. of Telangana & Director General, EPTRI and other dignitaries attended the event was Sri Kalicharan S Khartade, IAS, Secretary, Telangana State Biodiversity Board (TSBDB);.

A total of approximately approximayelyv300 participants actively participated in the event. The chief guest and other dignitaries visited the exhibits and students enthusiastically explained their exhibits on the theme.
