How land units convert
Every unit is a number of square feet; to convert, go through square feet:
area in B = area in A × sq ft in one A ÷ sq ft in one B
Easy to remember: 1 acre = 100 cents = 40 guntas = 4,840 gajam. 1 cent = 48.4 gajam; 1 gunta = 121 gajam = 2.5 cents; 1 ankanam = 8 gajam = 72 sq ft.

Good to know
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh mostly measures farmland in acres and cents; Telangana in acres and guntas (kuntas).
- House plots are sold in square yards (gajam) and flats in square feet. A gajam and a square yard are the same: 9 sq ft.
- Old documents can use local measures: check the survey number's record (Adangal or Pahani) for the official extent.
Questions
How many square yards is a 30 × 40 plot?
30 ft × 40 ft = 1,200 sq ft, ÷ 9 = 133.33 square yards (gajam), or about 2.75 cents.
Is a gunta the same as a cent?
No: a gunta (1,089 sq ft) is two and a half cents (435.6 sq ft each). 40 guntas or 100 cents make an acre.
